SUFE meets FG and Green Education spokespeople

19 Nov 2009

Stand Up for Education was in Leinster House today to meet with Education spokespeople.

The campaign met with Fine Gael Education spokesperson Brian Hayes followed by Green Party Education spokesperson Paul Gogarty.

The response from both candidates was positive with both giving broad support to the campaign.

Deputy Brian Hayes said that Fine Gael supported most of the campaign case statement and said he was enthusiastic to be kept informed of its progress and would give his support where possible. He said Fine Gael would consider endorsing the campaign case statement fully if some minor changes were taken on board.

Deputy Paul Gogarty said he would approach the Green Party Education Policy Committee to see if the target of 7% of GDP on Education could become a Green Party Policy. He also invited the campaign to write to him in his capacity as Chairperson of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education to request a hearing at the Education Committee early next year.
